I frequently did this as well in training.
Needless to say I got real good at pushups but the drill sergeants could not resist from laughing.

When I was in the Army in the '70s it was a cardinal sin to address an NCO, and especially a drill sergeant. as "sir".

This is Marines.
With BDUs Army rolled the sleeves so that the inside didn't show.
