Good afternoon to all !
My daughter is now playing U15 volleyball. I've offered myself for video and photography. Any suggestions regarding setup and lens that I should use or avoid.
Here's what I was thinking of using:
D500 (photo) and D5600 (video on a tripod)
70-200mm 2.8
50 mm 1.8
18-70 3.5 - 4.5
Shooting Raw and manual mode
Regards
Éric

I believe it refers to under 15 as an age group.

Why the D5600 for video?
U15 = under 15 of age - indoor volleyball

The coach want video for analysing the game (video sessions with the girls).

I shot a volleyball tournament for a friend years ago. There were like 100 teams I believe. Used 2 bodies, no video though.
Main lens was 70-200. However, it’s a very heavy lens for lugging around all day but worked great.
2nd lens was 24-120mm. Great for wider shots.
Not sure why you need to shoot RAW. You will more than likely end up with hundreds of shots to go through.
I believe I set Camera to Aperture priority to get some motion in hand movement and freeze jump shots.
I was very worn out at the end of the day.
Good luck!

Then you want the entire field, both sides including when either sides serve. You do not want to pan or zoom in at any time, the coach wants to see what all the players are doing, both his team and the other team.

Filming was easy. As you wrote, no camera movement, just the action from behind the ref to see both side and from the back to see the defense from our team.

The 24-120 mm - Was it a 2.8 or a faster or slower len ?

Eric
As s a sports photographer for over 30 years, for VB I used my Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens for all action shots. I also carried my 24-120 f/4 lens for sideline, pre and post game events ( team pictures, awards, presentations). For action the 70-200 is all you need.
Slower one.
But the court was lit very well. I just upped the ISO a bit.

Looks like you know what you're doing to me. You don't need any advice.

I also use a D500 and a 70-200 lens. I shoot raw so I can use ON1 to reduce noise. use a shutter speed of 1/800. Nice to start early so you will be ready when they can slam above the net. College is a real joy.
