A nice, unexpected surprise.

The day before Thanksgiving, I went to my usual place for a haircut. When my hair cut was done, I went to pay and was told the lady and gentleman who had just left had paid for my haircut (presumably because I had been wearing my Veteran's hat). Never had that happen before. I payed it forward by giving the girl who cut my hair a nice tip.

That is how it is done! Thank you for your service!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
Don’t be surprised my veteran friend. Most kids today don’t know the real definition of a veteran.

VETERAN: (n) A person who signed a blank check to the US Government for any amount of money, up to and including their life.

Many don’t know that a veteran did every thing they could and were told so that we all can enjoy freedom.

A group of us, who are retirees from our company, and happen to be military veterans were having breakfast at our usual monthly time. The waitress always takes our orders, then distributes the checks when we're done. Two months ago, we sat and chatted after eating, but no checks. We beckoned her, and she told us the gentleman at the cash register had paid our tab, and also took care of the tip. He came to our table, and told us, "Thank you for your service." His father was a WWII vet, but his number never came for the lottery in 1970.

That's the second time in a year, someone has treated me to a meal.

Excellent!
My father was a WW II vet, a combat medic. Went ashore on Utah Beach and later in that year fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he got out and worked as a sales rep for Proctor and Gamble. After a 16 year break in service, he re-joined the Army and finished a 20 year career. He did two tours in Vietnam.

How very nice of that couple!! And good for you to keep the gesture going!!

There is little restaurant where I like to go that some of the local police officers frequent. I always try to pay for their meal and if someone beats me to it I will get the officer(s) a gift card for future meals. I just like to let them know that they are appreciated.

True story. I walked into a Firehouse Sub shop one day a couple years ago and saw two "police" officers standing in line behind me. When I got to the register to pay for my order, I purchase two gift cars from Fire House subs and went to hand them the cards so at least part of their lunch would be covered.

Didn't I feel silly when I realized the two guys were not police, but actually HVAC repairmen with dark blue uniforms. Oh well, I gave them the cards anyway and slinked away.

Don’t feel bad. And don’t slink away. We should all practice random acts of kindness. Perhaps, that won’t be a passing fad.

Without making a political statement (I don’t like the Attic) you can send a copy of your DD-214 to any President in office and receive a Certificate of Service thanking the veteran for their service. It is available at va.com and officially called PRESIDENTIAL MEMORIAL CERTIFICATE. It is an excellent framable along with the photograph of the veteran.

That was a generous couple and I like the fact that they paid and left. Often, the people that pay do it so that you know what they did like they need a thank you or credit for doing it but this couple showed true appreciation.

I have also had my haircut paid for, also I have had my meals paid for. When that happens I also leave a generous tip.

Had a short time for lunch one day and went through Micky Ds drive through. When I got to the pay window they told me the guy before me had paid for my lunch. It's fun to do that some times for others to enjoy.
