Yes, "Well Done R. G."

I've noticed R. G. does have a soothing, articulate, nicely presented mannerism in his thoughtful posts. They are certainly helpful.....even though sometimes a lot of what he says, in its educated, experienced, level of advancement, flies pretty far over the head of this novice.
(But that's okay.....R. G. was probably a novice, too, somewhere back in the mists of the past.)

Congratulations to you and your marriage. This may be the only time in recorded history that the husband was right!

Been there, done that! I used a jar opened from my kitchen and it worked quickly and no damage. Now I have different colored tape on my lens hoods, Red for Nikon and blue...

Maybe hes still a true amateur at heart.
Most of the self proclaiming "pro" types here exhibit a woeful dearth of insights.

I like simplicity. In fact I thrive on simplicity. But sometimes we need to get technical whether we like it or not. To my mind technicality is good only as far as it improves the efficacy of the final product or contributes to our ability to get a lot out of the product.

Other people may see technicality as an end in itself and may even have an appetite for its complexities. I like it only so far as it helps to keep things clear and simple. Obviously I don't always succeed in conveying the clarity and simplicity to other people, but to my mind that is the essence of good explanations.

Greetings,
As I was quickly changing lenses, I put a Nikon 50mm lens hood on a Tamron 90mm lens. Big mistake! The hood is stuck on the Tamron lens which has rubber on the upper portion. The hood is crooked and locked tight on the barrel. Unable to budge. I am unable to find a solution, and I hesitate to force it too much fearing I would damage the lens. Any suggestions are appreciated. Should I send it for repair? It's my favorite macro lens.
Problem solved. My husband suggested to pull it off. It worked. Lens is good. I'm happy.
Greetings, br As I was quickly changing lenses, I... (show quote)

Try putting the lens is a plastic bag (no condensation) put in refrigerator over night. When you are ready you need something warm, (warm up your hands?) and grip the hood. You won't have much working time because you want the warmth to expand the hood but not the lens.
Good luck!

And THAT has worked for you ?

Or is it just a garbled version of some things youve read ? Cuz its the exact opposite of an actual good idea.

Anywho, simple *force* is the winner.

I don't know why I bother to answer your snarky response, I guess I'm bored.
It might be a real surprise to you but cold things contract and warm things expand. I think it's physics or something.
I can't tell if you are still a child or not or maybe an office worker who never got his hands dirty but this is a very common way to get things apart.
So don't run your mouth so much, use that time to go out and learn something useful.

Yes, that makes sense, he may be. I'm not sure what his real level is (and how is that definitively nailed down, anyway?) but R. G., by his responses, does show he still has true heart.

And, yes. R. G. does not give responses that leave an impression he has had to keep increasing his hat size as his photography skills and knowledge increase.
(Oh.......and his replies and comments don't give the impression he just glanced at the title and and lightly skimmed the first couple words or sentences of an OP's remarks.......it seems he reads through discussion threads before adding a comment.)

You do well at conveying clarity and simplicity and a concern to be helpful to others, R. G.
There is probably not a lot that can be done to ease the fact that sometimes, when the reader of your replies is not advanced enough to comprehend sufficiently your well-stated remarks, the usefulness of your input could come at a later time for that particular reader, rather than right away, at the first time reading through your post.

Who knows, though? Maybe I'm the only one who regularly finds that in reading through some of the topics and posts in the UHH, it is clear I still do not know enough yet to know how much I don't know.

👍
It's usually a more pleasant escapade when simple *force* saves the day without the need of involving the complexities and escalations of progression of *#!×∆\#*@ forces continuum.

Uhn huh. Dont need these expert idiots putting stuff in the freezer. Fact is, most of this "hardware" is plastic. Aint gonna shrink or expand by temperature shock. Just gonna get brittle and risk breaking.

I spent my whole life in a shop, putting things on, taking things off.
I was just trying to answer in my best snarky voice. What do you think?
