Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Gigapixel (for resolution enhancement) have been available as separate applications for sometime. With Photo AI, Topaz seeks to combine the features of all three, and apply them as needed, as determined by a feature they called Autopilot. They admit that Photo AI, at this point in its development, may not do as good a job in some cases as the standalone apps, so they continue them as a bundle for now. I have been using Photo AI for only a short time, but so far I have not needed to use the standalone apps.

I am thinking about buying Topaz AI for reducing noise and sharpening. It may help in general on some pictures, but some photos specifically... an example of where I think it will help me the most is some wildlife pictures, mostly birds, that I couldn't get close enough to (with the lens I have) and I want to crop. Questions:

1. Am I off base in making the assumption... of noise/sharpening help (I have looked at the trial and on some of the photos it seems to help A LOT)?

2. Where I am going to crop, should I crop 1st and then use Topaz AI... or vice versa?

By the way, I got a Black Friday e-mail from them and the price was the SAME $159 they have been advertising lately... no deal here and no reason to hurry on purchase (don't want to install yet anyway because my HDD is dying on my desktop and I have ordered an SSD to replace it... want to wait and install when I have the SSD running)

I shoot raw exclusively, mostly continuous shutter. Select the best in Capture One, crop first and make minor adjustments, then send to Topaz Photo AI, use default settings which satisfy me about 90% percent of the time...the balance are tweeked by adjusting NR or Sharpening, or both, then sent back to C1, minor adjustments if needed, mostly not. Last step is to save tif file to jpg.

Cropping first speeds up all subsequent routines without noticeable degradation of IQ.

Photo AI replaces the bundle programs, Gigapixel, Denoise, Adjust and Sharpen. It does it all automatically, or with manual control, if you choose. I own all these Topaz programs and have not used any of them since getting Photo AI.
It works great for me and is now part of my normal work flow.

Simpson Discount Codes

Below are the four companies which offer special educational discounts to our students, workshop/travel participants etc. Each has a different type of product.

> 1. Bedford Camera and Video
For all types of camera equipment and accessories, binoculars, Audio/Video including stuff that has just come out and is hard to get, go to the Bedford Camera and Video website. They are a large company that can get you better prices than the local stores and at checkout where it says coupon you type in SIMPSON for an additional 3% on anything in their store which includes the hard-to-get new items like the Canon R5, R7 and RF 100-500 mm IS L lens, plus free shipping on orders over $99. https://www.bedfords.com
The 3% credit will be refunded to the card you used for your purchase but will not show up until after the purchase. Make sure, to check the box for free shipping to enjoy free Second Day Air Fed-Ex.
If you have any questions our contact is Steve Elkins and he can be reached directly at (479) 381-2592. Steve and his associates are very customer friendly and take great pride in helping their customers.

> 2. ThinkTank and MindSet
For Camera Cases you can get a 30% discount through ThinkTank and MindSet by using this URL to order. Even if ThinkTank has a sale normally your code can be used and get the sale price plus 30%. The 30% automatically comes out at checkout if you use this URL. Think Tank makes extremely good rolling cases, photo back packs etc – top of the line. They have a lot of products. The travel rolling cases for our 600mm and 500mm lenses both allow the lens hood to be reversed and fits in the case – we have not found another case that will do that and still go in the overhead bins of any of the larger airplanes. Use the link below to get your 30% off – once you put the order in it will give you your price reduction.
