I am thinking about buying Topaz AI for reducing noise and sharpening. It may help in general on some pictures, but some photos specifically... an example of where I think it will help me the most is some wildlife pictures, mostly birds, that I couldn't get close enough to (with the lens I have) and I want to crop. Questions:

1. Am I off base in making the assumption... of noise/sharpening help (I have looked at the trial and on some of the photos it seems to help A LOT)?

2. Where I am going to crop, should I crop 1st and then use Topaz AI... or vice versa?

By the way, I got a Black Friday e-mail from them and the price was the SAME $159 they have been advertising lately... no deal here and no reason to hurry on purchase (don't want to install yet anyway because my HDD is dying on my desktop and I have ordered an SSD to replace it... want to wait and install when I have the SSD running)

I shoot a lot of wildlife, including birds, and find Photo AI very helpful. I also have Sharpen and Denoise but haven’t needed them since getting Photo. I crop and make tonal adjustments (no sharpening) in Lightroom, and then send the photos to Photo AI via The LR plug-in.

I would think that in addition to sharpen and Denoise, you might find Gigapixel AI useful - it’s part of the package. Before you purchase, Google “Topaz discounts” - you can typically find a discount code that will get you an additional 15 or 20%, but you may have to try several codes.

I love my Topaz Photo AI. Only had for a little while. This has made an amazing difference in my photos. I used to delete a ton of sport photos but now I can keep 99% of my photos. I shoot for MaxPreps.com and they have strict rules for what is a good photo and they won't accept anything less. I use the auto most of the time and it does an amazing job on all. Yes I do my little post work first, then export to a different folder as MaxPreps.com wants all photos 3000 x 2216 or 2216 x3000 pixel count. then I run them all through Topaz Photo AI. Happy, Happy, Happy. I think they have a trial offer. I bought mine at $159.009 and then there was something I found for an additional 20%. Good luck. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I will refer you to my Post and how fantastic Topaz AI Trio was in making a JPEG cropped photo taken with a camera that shot 3.1 mp raw, the leading camera of that day, the Kodak DC4800. In my study, i got good results from the Topaz trio DeNoise AI, Sharpen AIand Gigapixel.

Can one see a better photo taken with a 40mp photo taken with low ISO and manipulated with PS ... perhaps, but Topaz Photo AI is a click and done.

Image below is similar... but done with Topaz Photo AI

See my post for details: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-753293-1.html

The Topaz trio is on sale for $150 and the Topaz Photo AI for $75

PS: Crop first so the computer and programs has less work. Do straightening and patching first and perhaps do it with an enlarged canvas so that you can better compose and patch with clone.

I crop first, then use Topaz. Don't know if the deal still works this way, but I already had bought the Trio bundle before Photo AI was released. Because I already had the Trio, Photo AI was free. Just yesterday, I used Photo AI on some old wallet-sized photos I gang-scanned with my Epson. I used Photo AI to improve the files and noted this: it selected and improved/sharpened the faces, but left the bodies unsharpened.

Does Topaz Photo AI replace existing Image Quality applications (DeNoise AI, Sharpen AI, Gigapixel AI)?
Topaz Photo AI is an auto-pilot for image quality. It starts with the image quality issues you may have experienced, such as denoising, sharpening, upscaling, and locating/isolating/recovering faces.
You may also attack these issues using the Photo AI program's manual settings.

As for me, Topaz Photo AI is a painless method of loading a day's shoot into its hopper and letting the magic begin.
This method gets me to about 80-95% of what I like in a much shorter time than ever before.
My process is to start with Topaz Photo AI and finish with PhotoScape X (or insert any other popular post-processing program)
My newest "Best Friend" for heavily cropped or low-res pics is Topaz Gigapixel AI, which recovers faces and sharpens.

As others have said, it’s an excellent product and for the most part obviates the need for Sharpen, DeNoise and Gigapixel. I suspect they will eventually add autoexposure and make it all one needs except for cropping.
