Water Control gate

You all know about my addiction to vintage cameras and lenses. Ebay had a Topcon REsuper that I just could not pass up. I had a topcon 58mm 1.8 already, so when I saw the camera advertised without a lens for a decent price, I had to pull the trigger.

Once I got the camera I put a roll of black and whit in it, grabbed the dog and headed to the park. The light was fading fast; but I was able to get a shot of this water control gate. The background used to be a cranberry bog; but it is not being used anymore and is getting overgrown.

Nice shot, Erich--enjoyed! I do believe, though, that you could crop off the top third or so, in the middle of the white above the subject. The old bog background doesn’t add anything and actually, to me, is a distraction.

That said, the b&w is nice and crisp at the focal point. Nice work with your new acquisition.

That is a good point. This composition is all about that wood. I might crop just at the part where the grasses are in the light.

I believe that would work as well.

Roll of film.??? Congrads on your “new” camera. I think John may be on to something. I would crop the top just at the bottom of the dark area.

Well I’m guessing you’re pretty pleased with that result Erich, an interesting and crisp b&w.

Not enough cranberry?

I did have the pleasure of watching the reaping of a cranberry patch up in Cape Cod a few years ago.

Yes, Frank....some of us are truly stuck in the past and still shoot with film. There are, I would argue, worse addictions though. lol

Yes, I'm pleased with that photo. I'm also surprised how much I enjoyed shooting with a camera from 196?. I own a Nikon F, the Topcon's main competition, and I like shooting the Topcon as much as the F. It was a serious contender back in the day. The copy I got is really clean and I don't think it was used that much. I got lucky.
