Doesn't surprise me at all.
For the majority of people, carrying the little flat thing in a back pocket is so much more convenient that carrying a <D>SLR and any accoutrements. Images can be very comparable, especially with the newer phones.

They are still selling way more cameras than back in the 70's and 80's.

I think mobile phone cameras have definitely hurt point & shoot cameras, probably all but killed off disposable cameras. SLR/DSLR not so much, those are more for folks that want to be able to do more in all lighting & environment situations: weddings, wildlife, sports, etc.

I totally agree.

It is also generational. As younger generations have no history with anything other than smartphones for image making. To them is so easy and convenient and satisfying for themselves and sharing with their friends on social media.

Most UHHers here have some experience with and fondness for fullsize cameras and the images they can produce.
