Thanks, dparker! The prison closed in the ‘90s. It was purchased from the state by the town of Mansfield, OH for $1.00. It is in process of being restored, and regular tours are conducted in order to raise money. It is an actual prison and was not constructed for Shawshank. However, many props were constructed for the movie and are on display.

Thank you so much, Cathy! It was a very interesting tour. Many of the props used in the film are on display. The hotel room (“Brooks was here”, “so was Red”,) was actually constructed in the prison. The Warden’s safe seen in the movie was the Warden’s actual safe. Many more.
