This was from earlier this past summer at Summit point Racetrack WV. I love these older Beemers.

Super. Always enjoyed the SCCA road type courses.

It was a great event. The Jefferson 500 in part is for classic race cars. I had a fun time walking the paddock and talking to the drivers, who also double as the mechanic. Very nice bunch of people who love talking about their passion.

Thanks for posting - really takes me back. I had a 2002 also ( my first new car in 1971), raced SCCA and spent time with Miller & Norburn Racing who campaigned a winning IMSA 2002 in the early 70s. Up until then, Lotus Cortinas and 1275S Minis dominated small sedan racing, but we just ran away from them.

2002 or 2002 Tii? The difference between the two is night and day

I had a 2002, but with dual 45 DCOE Webbers on TISA manifolds and other Alpina parts which dyno’d at ~120 BHP and serious suspension mods (springs, Bilstiens, wider wheels and BR60-13 TAs) I don’t know that I’d describe the difference as night and day, but the Tii was certainly quicker. The stock 2002 was 2 liters with a single Solex carb - 100 BHP as I recall. The Tii was the same car but was mechanically injected and produced ~130 BHP. In Europe there were other versions including the 2002 Ti, the 1800 TISA rally car and even a turbo version, none of which I have seen sold in the US. The IMSA race car I mentioned was actually Weber carbureted as well. I don’t recall what it produced on the dyno. Here’s an image of my 2002 and one of Russ Norburn on his way to win the IMSA small sedan class at VIR in 1973. BTW, what really worked well on the Tii was swapping in a Gertag 5 speed.

If I remember right the Tii came with a rally suspension package and some other goodies. Off the showroom floor, on a road track, I believe the 2002 Tii was head and shoulders above the 2002. JMHO After owning a Porsche 914-6 stepping down to a sedan was not as traumatic as I thought it would be.

Bet you wish you had that 914-6 back! (Very rare these days) - I had a friend that had one. I didn’t realize the Tii had suspension differences. I looked at one when I sold my 2002. As I recall, it was somewhere just under 6K$ And the 3 liter Bavaria was in the 7s. It was at that point that I went slightly off the rails and ordered a new 73 911E Targa, which I really couldn’t afford, but it was the last year before safety bumpers.

I LOVE classic car racing. Thanks for posting. Is that a GTV Alfa?

And apologies for posting images in your thread without asking - just got carried away with the 2002 conversation.

Jealous… I sure wanted a 2002 Tii when I lived in Germany (69 to73) but, being under 25 age, I couldn’t afford the insurance.
