Don't go on the weekend. And especially, if you go north on 89A, give yourself time to return. The line of traffic gets quite long approaching Sedona southbound on 89A.
Go through Winslow, Prescott, Cottonwood then through Sedona from Phx. Far more interesting.
If you have a good friend, you can fly into Sedona airport. It's an exciting trip as the runway is on a mesa.
Oak Creek Canyon is particularly beautiful in October. I never thought “autumn color” would be found in Arizona, but it is in Oak Creek.

If you can get out of Sedona the West Fork trail is level, used to be some of the most gorgeous scenery in AZ. Hike as far as you desire, I have hiked a day to near the end where water became chest deep and the canyon walls on both sides could be touched with outstretched arms.
Montezuma Castle and Well are wonderful short walks on level grade mostly. Clarkdale Copper museum, Tuzigoot ruins very easy walk, Chapel of the Cross and many other beautiful and amazing things away from Sedona. Personally I totally dislike Sedona as it is such a tourist trap and cliché that is over photographed with all being the same. There are so many other places within an hour or less that are incredible.

I totally agree, with the suggestions and the sentiment about present day Sedona!! I graduated from Flagstaff many years ago, Sedona was a short drive south and the reason for several days playing "hooky". I refuse to go there any more! "if you can get out of Sedona" by all means GET OUT Of Sedona!! It's an incredible place once you do so!!
Suggestion: Skip the Pink Jeep tours (they are fine but have a schedule to keep) and rent a jeep from Barlows. You can drive any of the routes, they provide a map, so at the 'Buick barrier entrance' to each tour, you set your trip-odomer to zero and then the map gives you 'sights, interest' by mileage along the way.
Now, you manage your time, stop when and where you choose. You have the jeep for sunrise, sunset if you do multiple day, or PM to AM next day. When we did it, there were no restrictions on your choice of routes. Just use good judgement and go slow.
You need proof of insurance so check website and make reservations.

I have a few acres and a house up in the Canyon just up from Call of the Canyon.
My grandfather built it for my mother in 1960 and been going there ever since and camped there before that.

Heading to Sedona Az soon, I have been to Bell Rock, coffee pot, cathedral Rock, the chapel of the holy cross.. these are all beath taking. Any other spots you folks would recommend? Some other locations and or trails that would be considered easy to mild, 3 to 3.5 miles or less?

Cheap greasy spoon diners are sometimes a hoot.
I was just there visiting: got a kid in Phoenix,
Sitting at the linoleum table of a quiet place at the edge of town.
EVERYthing in this town is heavily influenced by the teal and orange aspects, btw.
ANYway we were being overlooked by a neon horned skull with orange glitter eyes.
Go slow, be prepared. Take lots of shots. Look for architecture.
You'll be surrounded by photo ops. A lot of tourist sights. Sites. Whatever.
Show us some!

One thing worth seeing in Sedona proper is the only McDonald's with green arches.

Perhaps you meant Wickenberg?
You might consider using Hwy 260 through Cottonwood to 89A to Sedona. Hwy 179 has a million (really!) roundabouts to go through.

Yes Wickenburg.
I did a lot of work in Winslow and habit of typing it.
Ps Wickenburg has a great western museum and the Hassiampa River is amazing
Some have already mentioned Walnut Creek cliff dwellings and Jerome (a bit south west of Sedona - a cool old mining town set in the side of a mountain. Also Red Rocks state park, just outside of Sedona has great hiking trails and views, including the House of Apache Fires, built in the 1940s by Jack and Helen Frey (when he was President of TWA). I'll try to attach a few pics from each.
