Same thing was posted to NikonRumors a few days ago. That site's owner thinks Nikon will not even discuss a possible Z8 until they have filled all Z9 backorders. It wouldn't be economically prudent to do so.

Until they announce it officially, we don't know anything. The image may not have even been taken with a Nikon camera. I downloaded the full image, and there is no EXIF data other than the number of pixels in the photo. If true, I think that 67 megapixels is ridiculous. I already can barely tell the difference between 36 megapixels (Nikon D810) and a 45 megapixels (Nikon D850) in pictures taken side by side with the same lens and exposure, using my best lenses. I have to look at the photos at the pixel level to see a slight increase in detail. 67 megapixels will be a marketing tool. Some people will just have to have it. Nikon needs to catch up to the others, particularly Canon, in improving their autofocus if they hope to improve their market share.

I bet as soon as it becomes available you will be first in line with a pre-order.

Tell my wife what a good investment it would be. I'd need some help on that after just buying a D850.
