A few photos from Philadelphia

This past weekend I was with a photo group in the area of 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. It's an area I've been in frequently but this past time I decided to not go with the group into the station. I decided to head north in an attempt to get a better look at the trainyard. Since the mid 1960's I've driven past on I-76 AKA Schuylkill Expressway trying to get a look at the equipment. Sometimes it would be a GG1 thundering out of the yard, but the best I could see was as a passenger stuck in traffic in other words not much.

I felt lucky when we (had two grandsons with me) found a parking area overtop of the active tracks. I was giddy when we found an elevator next to Amtrak offices that went to the 7th level of a different parking garage and gave visual access to all the equipment parked on the west side.

The photos I'm posting weren't taken as art pieces rather as what was there to share with others. Many of the photos were taken using the equivalent of a 16mm lens and give the photos the look of a being a model train layout.

This first photo is not at the station but rather at Cira Green several blocks away. Cira Green is a park like location on the top of a 12 story parking structure with high rises on opposite ends. The train is SEPTA Regional Rail most likely running from the Airport to Jefferson Station at 12th and Market. I-76 is the highway with Schuylkill River behind and Schuylkill Trail on other side.

As a reference point the black pickup is parked on Walnut St just east of 30th Street.

Wow, thank you for the great shots. I haven't seen that yard for a long time, but, it seems empty. Again, thank you.👍

Love the photos, but all the "wires" in a couple of them is annoying. (Yeh I know they are the power for the trains)

Yes I felt the same way.
Just realized I have Luminar Neo that removes power lines. It does a good job on street photos, I'm going to try, I'll post here how it works.

Same photo as above but using powerline removal tool on Luminar. I did what I would call the start of a removal if I was selling this picture. If I were to sell any photo it would be a first.

I'm adding a few photos, don't want to overwhelm anyone I can be a train fanatic at times and this was my first good view of 30th St yard. Been in the station several times however.
