I don't get to shoot nature very often but I took a day trip to Tilghman Island on the eastern shore of Maryland last week. I managed to capture an Osprey and another bird I can't identify. Using the Canon R5 with animal eye tracking makes it almost too easy. These were taken with a 70-200 2.8 with and without a 2x extender. The sunset was a 24-105. Tilghman is rather secluded and the B&B we stayed in was wonderful. I highly recommend the entire area if you ever get a chance to visit.

I can't figure out what the bird is either. I wonder if someone else can ID it....

Beautiful photos. I especially like the landscape scene with the hammock (wish I was there).
It looks like a Northern rough-winged Swallow. Great shot!

Nice photo's Tom, looks like a great spot. I was looking at the small bird and
thinking a Female Shrike, curved tip at the end of the bill and the brown patch
just behind the eye.

The sunset/sunrise with the Hammock is fantastic!!
Thanks everyone for the kind comments!
Ok, this is a tough one. At first I agreed with the Northern Rough-winged Swallow. But the stripes on the chest and the shape of the beak looked wrong in all the books I checked. (Stokes, National Geographic, Sibley, and Crossley ID Guide) I am going to propose another bird, see if you agree with me. First the shape of the beak is wrong for a Shrike. The hook referred to by another isn't the same on this bird and the coloring is all wrong. The Northern Rough-winged the beak is smaller and stops as soon as it hits the front of the head, plus I didn't see any stripes on the chest. So I kept looking and in the Crossleys I have (excellent bird book that I LOVE) I found an immature Purple Martin that seems to fill everything. The beak is the same, instead of the beak stopping at the front of the head it extends to almost under the eye. There is a dark patch extending behind the eye that looks the same to me, and the are brown markings on the chest. So I am going to ID it as a immature Purple Martin. Anyone else agree or have another opinion?
