Verizon FIOS question

I have the Verizon "bundle" and my Verizon receiver has not been working all that well lately, so after much haranguing (4 hours worth!) Verizon decided to send me 3 new boxes for my TVs. The old ones are 7 years old and I found out they were old style at the time they were installed. I've been told that the new boxes probably won't work with my 7 year old router that was Verizon approved at the time. From experience have any of you out there installed the newer Verizon receivers yourself and is there a problem with getting them to interface automatically with your router? I've been looking into Verizon compatible routers and the best one I've come up with for my budget is the ASUS RT-AX3000. I'm really, really disappointed in Verizon as the problem is with the receivers that I pay for every single month on my bill, yet the wouldn't send a tech person out to change out their faulty receiver boxes for no service charge. I am beginning to understand why so many people get fed up with dealing with cable companies and are chucking cable and using antennas and internet down steaming. Companies like Verizon and Xfinity really shoot themselves in the foot with their outrageous charges and extremely poor service. I'd thought about going to Xfinity, but after talking to others who use Comcast, they're apparently no better than Verizon.

I have smart TV's and use the internet. There are two carriers in my area, Comcast and Verizon, I use Verizon. The TV's are wirelessly connected to the modem. Other than the occasional outage, I have no problem with the internet service. It's the same service this posting was transmitted on.

I have swapped out boxes myself over the years with FIOS and never had a problem.

I can only speak for myself. I had Verizon and had a lot of customer service issues. Switched to Comcast and have had almost none. They also automatically sent me a new updated router for my system when it was time. Getting a technician to the house for a problem has never been an issue either and they have never charged me .

You are the designated "Satisfied Customer." There is one in every town. They use you as a reference when someone asks how good Verizon's service is.

For about 30 years we subscribed to Verizon (now Astound) for cable service. At no cost to you, they will come out and update your modem at no cost. We did this twice -- as technology improves, so do modems. This year we cut the cable and reduced our bill from 260.00 a month to around 125.00. This includes 1 TB service and a couple of internet packages we signed up for. The Disney, Hulu, ESPN package only runs 15.00 a month and offers things I like, like golf. We also have Netflix. If you are an Amazon Plus member you can get Prime for free. I installed an Arris modem and Orbi 16 router. The system works extremely well and I am receiving more content than when I was on cable. One thing I've discovered is that Smart TVs aren't always so smart. While they offer some content, it isn't always easily accessible and can be quite limiting. I find an investment in Roku to be well worth the expense (40 to 100 dollars depending on the model you choose). Some Smart TVs are equipped with Roku already installed and are better than those that just bill themselves as Smart. I do not have a Firestick but some say that is an equally good addition.

They also came out to the house, at their request, to update the equipment on the outside of the house.

I have Verizon FIOS. I recently had a problem with a Verizon provided switch (so I could add more Ethernet connections to the router). Verizon sent out a new switch which seemed to kill three of 4 TV boxes. When I complained, they sent out a tech who replaced the three boxes and fixed my mistake with the new switch at no cost. Verizon FIOS works for me.

I checked out other service providers and for the cost, Verizon FIOS is the best deal in the area, and their service rarely has problems. I seriously doubt I'm their only satisfied customer in the area. They wouldn't last very long if that were the case.

I took one look at the stuff Verizon sent me when I went to a newer system - called them out admitting total defeat - turned out it was the smartest move. It took their "expert installers" 3 tries to get everything working. They threatened to charge me for the 3rd visit and I told them ok - they said we will bill you. I said never mind my next call is to Xfinity. The 3rd try the Verizon system finally worked, surprise at no additional charge.

You have 2 competing cables you can choose from?

Yes. There's Comcast Xfinity and Verizon FIOS. I use to have Comcast but switched to Verizon FIOS. Exact same internet access for less money, and I don't pay for the wireless access point.
