I agree with the premise in your question. Chet's vocals reflect his tragic life experience. One can really hear "the blues" in his vocals. Thanks for sharing! :-)

As much as I love Miles Davis, I think Chet was really underrated. Not only are his vocals smooth but also his trumpet, and flugelhorn playing are outstanding. In my opinion.

Perhaps, so! I did not follow Miles when he began his later periods, but always followed Chet. Chet was in the West Coast "cool" scene and Miles in NYC. Miles was older and was part of the Bebop era. Overall, I think Miles had a much wider jazz interest. However, I probably listen to Chet more now - Miles when I was younger.
