I've found some people that say it is not a good idea to attach a kite to your tripod-- a breeze could take your tripod and camera, or at least cause vibration. So I've ordered a head-mounted umbrella to see if it works and is reasonably comfortable.

My thoughts exactly.

Try Kevin Adams tripod umbrella, and--if of interest--his stunning photography and comprehensive guide to NC waterfalls. www.kadamsphoto.com

DRM. I've ordered a Kevin Adams unit. Seems good. Very fast to take off so you can snap a picture without umbrella on tripod. Also blows off easily if gust comes along. We'll see how it works. Only disadvantage is that you have to hold it while taking a picture. Not practical when using 2 hands on camera for some abstract camera movement techniques.

Hands free option. BUT, if you bend over and turn slightly you would take out a city block!

Something like this would actually be pretty functional 🤪

To avoid vibration, put the umbrella on the tripod, buck up the ISO (assuming you have a current model camera body) and hand hold.

It doubles as a parachute.
