The first guy is good, but the second guy is hilarious, so keep watching.

No cowboy poet was ever better than Baxter Black. I used his videos in my college classroom when teaching poetry. My students loved it as a welcoming change from what they considered the “dry stuff.” It showed them a fun side of poetry they hadn’t been introduced to before.

Baxter Black sounds and looks a bit like a young Robin Williams.

They were both hilarious! God bless him, Johnny Carson, none of his successors comes close.

Very funny. I think cowboy humor is great.

"If you buy an outfit you can be a cowboy too." (Smothers Brothers)

I can't remember exactly how this cowboy poem went that I heard many years ago but the gist was something like this. When he died he wanted to have his hide tanned and made into a saddle and placed on a woman's horse so he could be between the two things he loved the most.

Just like these two Cowboys, he brought a lot of interesting and entertaining people onto his show that nobody had ever heard of....like Jay Leno, for instance.

Absolutely! Johnny was a class act, he was funny without the need to be profane or to belittle his guests.

A number of years ago, I saw Dennis Gaines perform. He was, for a long time, an actual Texas Cowboy. He then went into singing, poetry, and lying. We were fortunate to hear his performance which won him 1st place in the Texas Liars' Contest one year. I was saddened about 3 years ago to hear of his passing. I still remember this performance, however. Pure genius.

I had the pleasure of listening to Waddie Mitchell perform at a western-themed festival at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park around 25 years ago. We were inside a small tent with about 15 people. He recited his poetry and answered questions for about half an hour. Still remember it to this day Also got to hear the Sons of the Pioneers perform at the same festival.
