I didn't think there was such a thing. I thought Monarchs were all migratory?

There are a lot that just hang around here all year. They don't migrate at all.
Most do migrate, but some just get seduced by the weather and the food and stay here all year long.

Since the Monarch was declared an endangered species just a few weeks ago, I was going to post some of my own recent pictures. However, in the process, I learned that the Viceroy butterfly is nearly identical in appearance to the Monarch, and I really could not be sure which species I had captured. Since there are actually more Viceroys than Monarchs out there, odds are my photos were Viceroys. So, yes, pictures of Monarchs are becoming endangered as well.

Thank you. You can find a picture of the two by comparisons on the internet. The monarch is poisonous and the viceroy is not but is protected from predators because of the similarity.
