You can find old Nikon lenses in good condition for prices much lower than when they were new. If you're shooting film with an older camera, you can do very well on eBay.

How about $23 for a Nikkormat and 50mm f/2? Did I pay too much?

The camera/lens combo was on eBay, listed as "For Parts." I can always use parts, so I bought it. I put the lens on my D750 and went out back to see if it worked. I didn't think to adjust aperture. I just focused and took some shots. Apparently, the lens works. Next time you have nothing to do, look for cameras with lenses "For Parts." You might get a good deal. Now that I have this working lens, I doubt I'll be using it much on my DSLRs, but I'm glad that it works.

The lovely floral portrait below was handheld in breezy weather.

Send the Nikkormat to Zacks Camera Repair to get it back into working order.

Here's an amazing deal - considering what this cost when new - a Nikon F Photomic with 50mm f/1.4 lens for $199.

Yes, and I would have a working film camera that I would never use - and I would miss the fun of taking it apart. I have three nice, working film cameras, but I don't shoot film.

I always look at photo equipment at garage sales. I have picked up some really good lenses for less than $10.

Yes, that is an advantage of the mirrorless design, but will the lens show that with the Fuji. It has a little lever that connects with a Nikon body, keeping the lens wide open, regardless how the aperture is set. That's why the body has the Preview button on the front. Pushing in on that button lets the aperture close. I'll try it one of these days and see how it goes. Today is a busy day for me, though.

The oil burner guy just left, and I have hot water again!

Those Japanese Phillips looking screws are called Reed and Prince in the US...I think!

Thanks.

What is a Reed and Prince screwdriver?
Also known as the Reed and Prince, this screwdriver is similar to a Phillips but with a cross shape. Frearson bits accommodate all Frearson screws, regardless of size. The Frearson head is tapered to a sharp point, which allows for higher applied torque than the rounded-tip Phillips.

I was at a garage sale back in the 90s, I saw a lens case, I pick it up and it said Pentax which at the time I had a Pentax SLR. I shook it and sure enough there was a lens in it, opened it up and it turn out to be a 200mm lens, it
was in pristine shape. I only had pocket change and I was trying to think of a way to talk him out of it, he walked up behind me and shouted 50 cents, I handed the 50 cents and walked away with a smile on my face, I love
garage sales.

Yes, and that's exactly why I avoid garage sales. I know I'd bring home something that was a bargain - but not necessary.

But Jerry, it was necessary, since I had a Pentax camera and only a 50mm lens the 200 worked great on the camera.

After we leave this world,it's very probable that our collection will land up in a Garage Sale. So the chain goes on. 😃
