Reminds me of a visit to a ruined Roman fort not far from home, one of the buildings was a toilet block that was more or less fully intact, and when you looked inside there was room for about twenty men (sat close together)... I doubt you would sit longer than necessary!

I've seen pictures of those "restrooms."
When I was a kid, the local beach had a long trough as a urinal. Definitely weird.

We still have them here, both public men's Toilets in town have a 'trough'..very common over here.
