Aspic

My son is on his computer going through YouTube channels. He paused on a cooking channel. The guy mentioned "aspic." The image my mind conjured up didn't relate well to food.

People should think carefully before they make up words.

I think I know what you mean Jerry. Although the actual food aspic doesn't look too appetizing to me. I never tried it though.

My gramma used to make tomato aspic. Delicious. Like tomato jello with vegetables.

I'm not sure; delicious and aspic seem like an oxymoron, together. My sister once gave us aspic and gazpacho (chilled vegetable soup) when she & her husband took us out on their sailboat on Long Island Sound. It was pretty rough seas so I got seasick and heaved it all up. Looked the same coming up as it did going down.

Easy to make and very good indeed. We often made it with a bit of freshly chopped celery included and some home made mayonnaise on the side. You can use fresh tomatoes or tomato juice and add gelatin, salt and pepper, lemon juice, perhaps a bit of Worcestershire and chopped celery and/or parsley. Bring to a boil and pour into a mold to chill in the fridge.

That's how my mom made it, and, even as a kid, I liked it. Might have to try making it myself.

Add a few more ingredients and you've a serviceable- if impromptu- bloody mary! On a STICK!

Shudder. I can still remember that awful mix of stuff. Yuk.

I seem to recall an old Julia Child television show featuring beef tongue in aspic. It is not my list of things to eat before leaving this worldly realm.
