Rainmaker

I'm considering going out west and offering to make it rain. I seem to be able to do that here. When I do a load of wash, I prefer to hang it on the clothesline instead of using the electric dryer. Unfortunately, it usually rains shortly after the wash goes on the line. Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day. I decided to wash a big, thick comforter before putting it away till the winter. Within an hour, the skies opened up, and we had torrential rain. Then the sun came out again.

That reminds me of a story I heard a long time ago. In 1916, man offered to make it rain in San Diego during a drought. He did just that. The rain continued and caused flooding, so they refused to pay him. He brought his case to court and lost. I wasn't sure if this story was true or not, so I looked it up. Yes, it is true.

That big, thick comforter is going to take a long time to dry. I refuse to bring it inside damp.

It would get musty real quick.
I suppose you could just put it in the dryer...

In the past, I've taken wet things off the line and put them in the washing machine to spin before putting them in the dryer. It's bright and sunny now, though. : )

Is that a down comforter or a synthetic fiber comforter? I once washed a down parka and it took several hours to dry in the electric dryer at extremely low heat (I had to throw two sneakers in with the parka to "fluff" the down feathers). It would never dry properly on a clothes line. I have a synthetic fiber comforter I do a combination dryer/clothes line drying. You need the tumbling action of the dryer to fluff up the filling at some point in the process and I agree with George; it'll get real musty air drying especially in August's humidity.

Are you saying that in the past you hung clothes on the line before the washing machine spun the excess water from them? And you didn't know why it took so long for them to dry.

You would have lost money today here in AZ. Monsoon started at 4AM and it just stopped raining. (8:40 here now) Even closed the golf course. We desperately need the rain. They say the sun will be out by 10AM and expecting a high of 104 today. Below normal. woohee.

Synthetic, and it dried just fine.

We have these spikey plastic blue balls in the dryer. Come to think of it, these might explain all the little holes I've been noticing in my clothes. (Kidding)

About your (Kidding) disclaimer Jerry, It's unfortunate that you have to add that for those that miss the joke. I have had to explain my way out of moments where a comment was taken seriously. I have later learnt that the listener wasn't actually giving their full attention! (NOT kidding)

Yes, I know! I've gotten quite a few comments that really didn't apply to some posts from the past. I once wrote a story for a motorcycle magazine that was obviously not factual - more like Twilight Zone - and I got negative comments about bad riding habits.
