The light was good and the bird was clean and accommodating. I was able to raise the SS to freeze the bird with enough DOF with out completely destroying the ISO.

The action lasted for only a few seconds...shooting with a high frame rate makes a difference.

Great shot! There is no shame in using a high frame rate when the conditions require it! I actually choose to use a slower shutter speed on Hummers, I like to see the wing motion
