Identity Please

Out today in an abandoned train yard in the town of McCloud, California. McCloud has a past history of logging and lumber. Scattered around the area are numerous passenger cars that have been heavily vandalized and painted with various forms of artwork.

Only one abandoned engine. Never seen anything like it.

Can anyone identify it for me?

Thanks

That was what I was thinking, maybe a track laying machine or tie machine.

Ballast spreader.

Outrigger blades designed to angle down to go *below* rail level, with extra steel reinforcement on lower edge. Very beefed up hydraulics and 'pivot' point for the blades. Extra thick and heavy frame.

If it was a plow, the blades would be in the front.

Nice find!

None of that qualifies to be called artwork. Just defacing.

and today many MofW machines perform various functions, so the actual name would not be familiar to us even though the functions are.
