Again, at Sandy Hook with the purple thistle. It sat right next to an old gun Terrett foundation up in the paved North Beach parking lot of the Fort Hancock section. The stem of the plant has nasty spines & a couple of days later the NP maintenance crew wacked them down while cutting the grass there. They lay there on the ground with some life left in them, so some birders took them home to try & replant. Enjoy.

Fantastic set!!
Damned Thistles! a constant battle to keep them from taking over a small field, the smallest spines will pierce heavy welding gloves!!

Love these, Tom! A goldfinch couple has been eating the petals of my orange zinnias that are in a big pot on the deck.

Nice shots. When I lived in Northern Illinois I saw many goldfinches but rarely see one in the Southern part of the state.

great set, funny don't remember anything so nice when I was last at Ft Hancock (1965-1966) the only birds I aw then were seaguls and did not see any flowers when cutting grass aroung the barracks.

your last set from Sandy Hook were also great, might have to take a trip down to see if I cab fing what you have.

Thanks for posting
