A Z 100-400 arrived yesterday in a big brown truck.
Hooked it up to my Z9 and tried a few shots.
A cloudy, cool day. All shots had high ISOs.
The glass is very well balanced even at 400mm-lens barrel extended. Better than the 500pF. Even with my messed up shoulders the rig slews around quite well.
Download and enjoy. What do you think?
They look good to me. I don't, however, see anything I couldn't do with my D850 and relevant lenses. That is not a put down; just an observation. These are very good images and I think as you use that combo you'll like it more and more.

I agree- The shots here represent my first attempts. As Learn the gear hopefully better shots will ensue! Thanx for sharing.
Looks plenty sharp! Enjoy your new toy. Personally I thought it felt heavier than my 500mm PF even though the weights were identical when I weighed them.
I also ran some tests with the 1.4TC on the 100-400mm and, at least for my copies of these, the 500mm PF definitely seemed sharper. So ended up not keeping the 100-400mm since I would have used it primarily with the 1.4TC. I realize there are some advantages to having a Z lens on a Z camera, but for me the disadvantages of the 100-400mm outweighed the advantages (primarily the ability to zoom out).

Good points. I find the weight balance is better.
Looks good - try it on some dragons.
Excellent, the shots and the lens.
