Two views of the same New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae) Taken in our garden. We (Australia) have about 79-80 different species of these beautiful birds. There are 190 different species, the others are in New Guinea.
This particular species is found in southern Australia.
Not only do they suck nectar from flowers but they are also insectivorous...they become very friendly when they get to know you and are not easily frightened and will come right into the patio while we are there and drink nectar from our hanging baskets...in the first pic you can see pollen around its beak...one of my all time favourite birds...
what a cool looking bird!
