For our stay "on the lake" (literally - the hotel is built on stilts driven into the lake bed), we were booked into the "GOLDEN ISLAND COTTAGES" and had a pleasant stay at this, for the region, upscale resort.

This first set of 3 covering this resort presents the view at our arrival in the late afternoon hours as well as pictures of our dinner plate and bed room.

Perhaps they are not smiling because their country has been taken over by a repressive military regime, and the world has just allowed their democratically elected leader to be jailed! But life goes on for the non-political classes, even if they do not enjoy it.

Really nice, Joe. Assuming that lake is not subject to severe weather.

Thanks for looking in on the travelogue again Ted, I very much appreciate it. As to the non-smiling part: Of course you are totally right in today's environment, it is a scandal what these military dummies are doing to this country and even worse that they are getting away with it. However, we undertook this tour in 2013, a time of happiness, freedom and promise of a golden future for this golden land.

So what was their problem??? Anyway, it sounds like you totally enjoyed the place, as I would were I to travel there. But I would not consider it in today's environment. Hopefully soon, to Rangoon!!

Yeah, that is the question to which we will never know the answer. Yes, we did enjoy the trip, particularly the Myanmar component, for its very unusual environment and also for seeing of course all these cultural treasures, as well as experiencing the people in a country that had been down for a long time, pulling up their socks, so to speak, and starting over again, too bad that this positive environment only lasted some 10 years - I would also not go there at this time because of this junta ruling the country, on the other hand, the people there really would appreciate and probably also very much need tourists right now - a real quandary.
