I watched several Brown Bears feeding at a waterfall just north of Hyder AK on way to the gold mine. I was close but didn't get out of my truck.

I just saw my first close-up bear at the end of April in Olympic NP. We had just seen the Salmon Cascades and walked the trail through the giant trees. As we left, there was a bear in the grass by the side of the Sol Duc Road. We couldn't tell what the bear was eating, but it was giving the meal its full attention.

For decades we've had a large black bear roaming around on our hill. We are 17 miles from Mt Rainier. Our neighbor on his 180-acre ranch on the top of the hill got night photos of it with his motion sensor night vision camera set up on his barn. We've had its footprints and scat on our property but have never seen it. Same with a large Cougar.
