UHH family, I purchased this Nikkor 24-120 f/4 from KEH and what I'm seeing in the VR is not the same as my other Nikkor lenses with VR. This is my second 24-120 from KEH due to the first lens having VR issues, in my opinion when compared with my extensive collection of Nikkor lenses with VR. My question to you guys and gals is, have you had any VR issues with this particular lens? The lens is tack sharp edge to edge; however, the VR is not as stable as my other Nikkor VR lenses, some of which are less expensive. Your help and experience with this lens is greatly appreciated.

Have had the lens for years, and it is always on one of my favorite cameras, Sharp as you said and no difference observed in the VR vs. several other Nikon lenses. I find it an extremely useful FL range.

I had that lens, I never noticed any problems with hand held shooting or noticed that it was any different from other lenses.

What do you mean VR not as stable? What is the VR issue you are asking about? What are the symptoms/effects?

I have the same lens. No VR issues. I don't share your opinion on its sharpness (decent but not outstanding), but there may be sample variation.

I have that lens (purchased new) and have never had any issues with it.
Could it be 2 bad copies?
As therwol stated, his copy is not tack sharp. If Nikon produces 10,000 copies or more of a given lens, your odds go up of getting a pseudo bad copy.

I have two of these lenses, and find that the VR works great on both of them. Do you notice the problem more at one end of the focal length range than another?

Another think to consider is that these lenses tend to see quite heavy use. It is possible that the copies you have purchased have just seen a lit of use. Another possibility is that because VR requires quite a bit of power, weak, old, or perhaps a not fully cpatible battery might not be supplying enough power to enable the lens to work properly.

I think a better way of describing the issue is that I really don't notice any difference between VR and when VR is off. My other Nikkor lenses if very apparent when VR is on......snap steady every time I hit the focus button but I don't see that snap in the 24-120 if that makes any sense.

That might very well be the case.

That could be the issue..... I'm going to swap it out again.

Now that you mention that, I do notice that at the 120mm mark, it appears that the VR is not working but at the 24mm it appears to be more stable.

Honestly, the lens should be perfect at all focal lengths, with VR support. It not the case, just return it.

Yes. Sorry. I was typing really fast before the movie (Top Gun) started and misdirected it. If you haven't seen that movie, I highly recommend it.

No apology necessary. I just thought it was intended for the OP and wanted to alert you.

More importantly, was that the original or the new Top Gun? I have the original on Blue Ray, and I saw it multiple times upon it's release.

My girlfriend and I saw Top Gun Maverick recently at the theater and we, and the audience, loved it!

I loved this scene:
"What were you thinking?" "You told me not to think!" pause ......... "Good to see you" "good to see you too".
