I'm going to switch from Hibernate to Shut Down and see how that works. Very often, this Dell desktop will restart a few minutes after I have it Hibernate. I'm trying shut Down now.

Interesting.
My HP stays in hibernation until I wake it up.
Do you have any application running in the background that may be set to auto-wake for some reason? Like a scheduled task?

One possible reason from Microsoft on a Win 10 box waking up:
"This is a Power & Sleep issue. You may disable this ability by locating your PC's Network Adapter in Device Manager and opening the Properties window. Then, click the Power Management tab and uncheck the box for "Allow this device to wake the computer"."

I do allow my work laptop to hibernate when the battery is low. That way I have enough time to get the charger before I lose data. For personal work I never run out of power while working on something.

Our desktop is set to hibernate after 3 hours of non-use. It may be hibernating most of the day as I mostly use my laptop. It takes only 3 seconds for it to wake up.
The only problem is that the laptop looses the "connection" for file browsing when it hibernates, which requires a re-start of the desktop to restore the connection.

I never allow my PC to hibernate. It also runs, except for a necessary reboot, 24/7. I have my monitors sleep after two minutes of idle time. In the past, when I did allow hibernation, I seemed to have had issues. Now, no issues!! I'm happier!

Thanks for that. I'll take a look.

I went through a lots of links about a month ago. This problem is so intermittent that I can't tell if something works or not.

One thing I did learn is to click on "Restart" occasionally. With the default setting of Quick Start (or whatever it's called), it doesn't clear everything out of memory when it shuts down so it can start faster. Unclicking that Quick Start or doing a Restart makes for a considerably slower startup from cold.

Apple?
Win 7?
Win 10?
Win 11?
Other?

Scroll using the mouse?
Scroll using the Up/down keys?

Wired mouse?
Wireless mouse?

Has the computer slept or is it awake all the time.

Sorry for forgetting to give you all the info:
Win 10
sleep at night most of the time, but not always
Won't scroll with arrows or mouse
Computer is an 8 yr old Lenovo (I am saving up to buy an Apple computer).
Hope this will help you figure out what is wrong.
Thanks

At one time early in the life of Hibernate, the advice was to never use the option. Apparently, the reason for that advice has not been elimina t ed.

I turned off the UPS so there was no power going to it. It's been okay since then. I guess when it was threatened with starvation and suffocation, it thought twice about playing tricks on me.
