Just returned from Svalbard ... wonderful trip. Encountered 5 Polar Bears (2 with kills).
Bears were photographed from the ship at approx 1/4 mile +. Used a 500mm + 1.4TC
Both photos are heavily cropped.

What camera did you use? Did you use a tripod or some kind of support? These are incredibly sharp for being so far away and heavily cropped. Nicely done. Kudos.

The sleeping bear was taken with a Nikon Z9 , the other with a Nikon D850. On some photos I used a monopod ... resting on my foot, others were hand held with elbows resting on the ship's railing. We were notified when a bear had been spotted and it took about three/four minutes to put on the clothing necessary to remain on deck for a protracted length of time, (3 layers of clothing - head to toe), so I then just grabbed the big lens with whatever body was attached to it. The reason for all the clothing ... it was cold and WINDY.
