This is strictly for fun (yes I know it’s a bit silly, but…) so let’s leave the potential snarks at the door!

An alien comes to Earth and creates an uncontrollable GAS attack on every photographer on earth. You have to pick one photography tool. It can be a camera, lens, lighting equipment…whatever. You get one item. Affordability aside, what do you choose?

Practice is cheaper than another new camera.

An 85" ultra-HD display on which I can edit my photos to the tiniest detail (noise, dust, masking, etc.).

But far more time consuming - right up until you try to learn the new menu.

I, pretty much, have all the equipment I need. This offer would be interesting if it didn't limit camera or lens. If it included both, then I'd be interested in playing.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome - the need to buy new gear whether you need it or not.

A new clock. One that turns time back by, oh, I dunno, maybe 50 years or so.

I totally agree with you, Jim, that would make me 29, perfect.

If we gave two people a brand new camera and lens, and after a week we learned only one had practiced, who do you think will be better?

At first I’m tempted by the Toyo 8x10 view camera but then realize I’ll need to make a huge investment in lenses, tripod, etc. Then I’m thinking that Nikon 400mm f/2.8 Z lens since I have what I need to go with it. Ultimately I go with the Canon 1200mm f/8 RF. I can’t use it but I can sell it and then buy that Z 400mm and the Olympus 150-400mm f/4 Pro lens.

Depends on which one has talent.
