Without the title I am not sure why you posted this shot. The title and photo did bring a smile to my face.

Perhaps you can tell us why you think this photo is interesting and why you took it? What attracted you?

This is the UHH critique section, not the gallery. I output images to the viewers and in turn the viewers input ideas or reactions. Asking my rationale is, in my view, a reversal of those roles.

In the gallery members output "pretty pitchers" to the viewers who invariably input perfunctory compliments. I learned long ago to exoect nothing useful from the gallery. Therefor I post here.l, where viewer input is generally more thoughtful.

Please feel free to critique my stuff with no explanation from me. I wish to avoid is nonvisual influence (e.g. words) to "guide" or channel a viewers take on the image.

I was trying to figure out what your intent was in the photo. But without that, here are my opinions:

The photo is a snap shot of two semi crunched up 1/2 and 1/2 milk cartons. I do not say any "Andy Warhol" like artistry in the shot, like his soup cans, nor can I figure out your artistic intent. A 100 milk cartons might have been interesting. This shot is quizzical but to me, but would not make me view it as art.

Ive tried such photos when Im bored around the house and don't have much to show for it. My colleages use layers and all kinds of stuff I am trying to learn. I think this might work if you tried duplicating it many times and doing some sort of overlay. With your ok, I can upload a photo where I multiplied the shot 3 times and put the image together. This just might be interesting in that format. Or I could try it on your photo with your permission.

I would like to see both, your original and your changes to my milk cartons. To me, thaz more useful than discussing my "intent".

TIA !

Ok, here goes. Turns out this subject was not GREAT for this type of manipulation, but one never knows what one will get, so I find it amusiing. I uploaded two versions of your work and a regular photo I took and a manipulated version of the same photo. Once you do this the file size gets massive...like around 160 meg...so I usually just put it into a reasonable size jpeg and delete the rest.

Thank you.

I actually prefer the treatment you used on my trash vs your stairway cuz the overall effect has no central axis of symmetry.

For your stairway you used larger fewer elements and that makes the "mirror look" inescapable. I find the "mirror look" to be just a more decorous version of Rorschach ink blots. I think the stairway would be terrific treated the way you did my trash, with many smaller elements and no dominant single axis.

I used to play similar games with "my" line camera ... similar to a stat camera but uses film. The result acoarst has no color and no grey scale. Subject matter didnt matter. A crumpled paper napkin can work just fine.

Rorschach ink blot treated to a bit of editing for a more dimensional effect
