Nice shots! I really like the first one as it’s the hardest to get! Got one last night when he dove into the water at 8:09 pm (no light, too far away and too much noise)!

Have seen many fantastic shots and videos of osprey hitting the water and coming out with a huge beautiful fish. Although have watched osprey flying and going to the nest, have never seen or photographed the osprey catching a fish until this week. Took 300 photos at 20fps of the osprey as it left its perch on the tree, hit the water and came away with what looks like two small fish (though could be wrong about that). Now what to do with so many pics? Nice problem though to have. Below are a few, shot with my Z9, 500mm PF plus 1.7TC at f/9.5, 1/1600 and ISO 2500 (a bit overexposed as the sun hit the osprey and the log was in the wrong place, but not bad considering I was shooting from across the other side of the small lake):

Great set!!!
Surely many of the images are only so-so,I keep the great one and dump the rest!!

Thanks! Yep will probably dump the great majority though think about trying to put together a "stream" of photos for some kind of video though it is a fair amount of work.

I tried for two years to get this shot and finally, like you, succeeded. I feel your excitement. Nice work!

Thanks! And congrats on your success.

Yep the first was my favorite. Actually have a bunch before that while it was heading towards the water but this was the only one actually dropping into the water. Keep trying and you will get a better one when there is more light (necessary to have the shutter speed) and closer.

What I like best of your first three images is the eye level perspective which is unusual for this shot sequence. You had obviously planned this and were well positioned for this capture. I am also impressed with the performance of the Z9 with the 500mm PF. Well done ricardo.
