Lighting for the Shadows

I enjoy flower photography but with a twist. This one was done to create strong shadows. It's a challenge to get the proper lighting. Took several attempts to get them positioned right.

Used a speed light with a round grid adapter.

The flower is leaning on light which has taken on substance... so our eyes think. Skillfully done Jim.

Thank you. I love the beauty of flowers and just taking another standard shot is not for me. I'm always trying something new trying to draw interest with some sort of mood or creativity.

Why not crop the top off down to the flower which would emphasize the shadows more?

I have become bored with photographing flowers. But I must say you gave it a creative twist. Nicely done. I may have to look at flowers with a whole new outlook.

Not everyone will like the shadows so this is a compromise. A lot of times I think a picture need to have some breathing room.
