Natural light

My granddaughter (Carley) and I took a few natural light portraits yesterday evening. We used the light coming through a sliding glass door, the door faces south and there is a small deck above the door, so there is not much light coming through. We used a light gray collapsible background and a couple 20” x 30” white foam-core boards as reflectors.
Camera: Canon 5DII
Lens: Canon 85mm, f/1.8
Settings were: SS – 1/60, Aperture f/2.2, ISO-3200

Excellent study in soft Short Lighting...
And with such a charismatic talent!

Loving the subject isolation with shallow DOF...
Albeit I would have stopped down slightly to bring here left iris more into focus...

Having the near eye tack sharp is stellar, however having a tad too much falloff on the left?
In my humble estimation this can sometimes create a "Cyclops" effect...

While I've expressed this thought before, it's totally your visual statement and if you have a compelling need to showcase "Fast Glass" so be it... However just because you have the "Kit" to achieve this doesn't mean it's universally germane...

When you are shooting commercially the art director (or client) on the session may call you on this...
From experience...

Wayne you are talented and I've enjoyed following your journey or I wouldn't take the time to comment.
Hope this makes sense... Looking forward to more of your compelling artistry, especially your very precious granddaughter!

All the best... thomas

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it as always. I have been reading this book “The Natural Light Portrait Book” by Scott Kelby, actually I have read it twice so far. Really want to get into the natural light stuff. I have a couple shoots coming up, senior pictures for a grandson and a nephew. I will post some of those pictures when I get them. Again thank you for your input.

Somebody smarter than me once said; "To be a successful photographer, point your camera at something pretty!" ( Or words to that effect.) You did it again!
