New Z9 - Thoughts

Hello all, I received my Z 9, order placed Nov.01 with B&H. By the way, when I ordered this item, I had to pay when I placed the order. Anyway, out of the blue, after receiving at least 50 emails over the months that my item was still on back order, one comes in to say it had shipped. Delivered on Fathers Day. Nice present.

So, I put the battery in the charger, and on Monday began to read and put some settings in. After at least 4 hours, I thought I was done. One last thing, the monitor was always on when the camera was turned on. I didn’t like that, and began to look for a way to turn it off. Had a big problem, that I posted last night, and a fellow Hedgehogger gave me the solution.

So, a couple of thoughts: people have said how heavy it is, I weighed my D850, with the md 18 battery pack, and my 500 PF lens, my previous kit: 6.6 pounds. New kit, same lens, lens adapter: 6.6 pounds. It actually feels lighter to me.

4 hours going through menus and options, for me, a waste. I shoot birds. Period. That is what this camera is for. So I have it set up just like my D 850, and the difference is faster focus, silent, way too many pictures.

When traveling, I used to put my card in an IPad adapter, upload pics to my IPad, and edit there, at least while traveling, to know what I had, and not waste time on what I already had. Pleasantly surprised to be able to plug the camera into my IPad via a USB C cable, and instantly upload to my IPad. One less item to lose.

So, sitting home, just to see how it worked, I took a couple of backyard birds this morning. They will be posted in the bird sub category.

Overall, way happy, even just playing in the backyard. Can’t wait to go somewhere.

Thanks for your comments about the comparative weight. I was one of those who found it heavy when handling one at a Hunt's Photo show. Glad to be shown wrong; one less excuse for not buying one.

Hello all, I received my Z 9, order placed Nov.01 ... (show quote)

B&H only charges your card when they ship the equipment to you. Technically, you did not pay for it when you ordered it, you gave them your card number, but again, they did not charge the card until they shipped the equipment to you.
Words are important. Use them correctly please.

I have the D850 and the 500 PF and I mostly shoot BIF. So for most BIF I am sticking to my D500. My hands are way too small for the battery grips so I do t use them. Maybe one day I will rent a Z9 and see if I can hold it.
