I doubt any program that can do all the things you ask will be easy to learn. Take the time to work on the one of all your wife has purchased you feel most comfortable with and try again to learn it. If you need help, try YouTube or try with specifics here.

Fast stone is an excellent program. I use it before importing to see if I want to import the photo. You can crop, resize, sharpen, denoise, edit darks, mid ones and high lights plus much more. All for free. Good luck in choosing.

I use Luminar AI because it is easy to understand the purpose of the various tools and navigate among them. Now I'm considering Luminar Neo. It sounds like it is an improvement in many ways.

Lots of software is difficult and quite frustrating to learn. You are not alone.
But I would second the suggestion to let us know what you actually own because we can point you to which of those is popular. Because the thing with software, the more popular it is the more help is available.
Once you pick one, I would suggest a 1 on 1 tutor just to get you started. Many high schools have lots of kids who need to do some community service, and might be quite willing to help you out.
If you adopt the right mindset, you might be surprised at how much you can learn.
Be specific and make notes Like Importing pictures into lightroom, or how to straighten a horizon, How to make a Panorama. If you keep each thing clear and simple, it is a lot easier to ask for help, and to get help. With those kinds of straight forward questions you can also search You Tube. But keep at it, if the first video you find doesn't work for you, there are a thousand more. Spend an hour a day, & make notes. Learn to stop & rewind.

I can identify with that. I developed and used software for over 40 years. My wife is like the OP - just can't get it through her head. I find it very frustrating trying to teach her anything tech wise.

Exposure X7 will do all the things you require and then some. I am only about a half step ahead of you.

Try some free/ low cost Computer Literacy class @ Community Colleges and senior centers etc..
They may be easier to understand than more formal class and aimed for the beginner intermediate Computer user.

interesting discussion. How much time did you put into learning Elements? Did you jump from program to program trying to find the magic sauce? The question of what you have already is not a bad one. What programs do you have? And as a follow up, how much legfitimate time did you put in?
For instance, I am pretty good with Lightroom, but abysmal in Photoshop. I learn something, forget it and have to learn it again. I do not spend enough time to internalized the Photoshop things other than a few things.
It seems like your requirements are not that big...maybe make a list of what it is you want to do, write down in a book how to do it (I have a book for PS..Im lazy and dont keep it up..that's on me.) and take little baby steps.

It certainly does, Ed! The only drawback is the emailing function (direct from Picasa) is not longer a feature. Easy to work around, but some people like the internal function of an editing program.
