My niece is having a vowel renewal for her 10th anniversary. Since they didn't do the wedding party the first time they are going to do it with the renewal. They are doing it in the Harry Potter theme. Has anyone done one of these and if you have any advice or photos you can share?. I did weddings years ago but stopped because I found them annoying

Firstly, if you found weddigs "annoying" and still do, my best advice as a veteran shooter and a professional who still does weddigs; is either get with the programme or get someone else to do the work. This upcoming event must be important to your neice, so approach it with that in mind.

I have done some "theme" weddigs and events. The last one I did did was kinda medieval- a Robinhood, Maid- Marrion, and Fryer Tuck kinda thing. The bride and groom and most the guests were in costume. It was a fun coverage. I am not, personally intoHarry Potter, but if I were expected to shoot something with that theme, I would read the book, watch a video, ask my kids and grandchildren about Harry, and get clued in.

Otherwise, it just lies any otere family event- makes good portraits of the couple, family groups, and plenty of candid shots of folk interacting. If there is a ceremony- have at it!

If I can locate the file, I will post some shots in the next few days.

I did get out of it a long time ago, capability and enjoyment are 2 different things. This is family and you do things for families. I have watched all the movies but watching a movie and photographing an event are completely different as you know. I would think that posing a traditional wedding party and themed would be different. I'd appreciate seeing a few themed pictures if you have them.

I will dig these up and post the soon. There are 4500+ old weddg files- some are on colour negative and some are digital- wish me luck.

When I suggest that you "see a video or read a book, I mean to get the gist of the Harry Potter series. That would be a guide as to common up with poses and scenarios etc. Who's gonna be Voldemort, the Dark Wizard? I hope it ain't the photograher!

Stand by for some images!

Chris a wedding event is likely the most important day in a women's life.
Very few males can totally get there head around this.
Thus many of the most successful wedding photographers are young females.

The typical path into this genre is as a Second Shooter for other established commercial wedding photographers.
It is absolutely an epic privilege and honor to capture all the joy latent within a wedding event...
A wedding photographer's primary mission is to make each and every couple's event joyous, fun and memorable.
This is appropriate be it for their the initial event or a renewal of their vows

Wedding photography demands a charismatic gifted ability to direct one of the most complex production sets in existence. This only comes with time and tenure i.e. hands on within the craft.

Like Ed said, politely walk away from this assignment, you do not belong at the event as a wedding photographer.

btw, I am a professional bridal makeup artist and hold a cosmetologist license from the state of Maryland in Makeup Artistry... I always have at least one talented assistant on my team for every paid wedding assignment.

And yes I do a trial session prior to having our client(s) sign a contract for the event.
Below is a sample of my publication quality Bridal Makeup captured by one of the leading wedding shooters in my market... I'm listed on Wedding Wire and turn down work every wedding season...

I absolutely love my bridal wedding assignments. Making a woman look and feel her absolute best for this special day is to be cherished beyond words...

I am full aware of the importance of the wedding to a woman. I had one 48 years ago and have photographed many weddings thought I haven't done them in years because I found them annoying. This is a vowel renewal with a Harry Potter theme. Its also family

When your work is your play and your play is your work you have arrived. Think Ethos here...
Until then your career endeavors are at best a compromise... Think Pathos here...

"...I did weddings years ago but stopped because I found them annoying..."
This is the embodiment of a misogynistic mindset and certain the not the ethos a charismatic wedding photographer.

Best advice to others viewing this post: If your are truly sincere about excelling as a wedding photographer I would suggest you invest quality time on Wedding Wire in as it is the premier portal for wedding professionals.

Also purchase subscriptions to the follow bridal magazines: Premier Bride, Wedding Style, Brides, Get Married, Town & Country Weddings, Inside Weddings, and Martha Stewart Weddings. This was suggested by my mentor and was an absolute god send for appreciating the psychology of the Bride and the Mother of the Bride (your ultimate clients).

If you don't find the beautiful editorial spreads latent within these magazines truly breathtaking and inspirational then you may be on the wrong career track...
