I miss my optical viewfinder.
Mirrorless eats batteries.
The advantages of live-view exposure aids makes it all worthwhile.
The advantages of AF on the sensor and focus peaking makes it all worthwhile.
The advantages of a shorter lens flange distance makes it all worthwhile.
Would not go back.

I moved from a Nikon Df to a Nikon Z 6II.
There are more options on mirrorless. I bought David Bush’s book which helped with the transition . All in all it wasn’t difficult.

Things work out best for those with the mirrorless cameras.

I moved from a NIKON D810 & D5 to a NIKON Z6II & Z9 - Have NOT regretted it one bit. Know that there is a bit of a learning curve to get through. I will tell you that you will need an FTZ adapter to use your DSLR lenses until you get some Z glass. I have slowly sold off my most of my DSLR lenses and replaced them with Z glass. I still have the f2.8 24-70mm, f2.8 70-200mm, & 200-500mm f5.6 to sell. Good luck with the transition. I know you won't be sorry.

My Canon Rebel SL2 DSLR is still my best camera. My Canon EOS-M mirrorless is a great travel camera.

When people look at an image from a mirrorless camera, they feel the difference not just in their eyes, but in the depth of their heart.

I don’t think the OP was looking for praises of mirrorless cameras, but for experiences of switching., maybe the learning curve.

I gave it a try, more out of curiosity than anything else, and I converted it back to a mirrored camera.

The changers are not the pop-up glass, but the changes reflect improvements in a new series of camera. For Instance, with the chunk of glass gone the camera has more space and opened the door to a new set of lenses, sharper, cheeper and more accurate. In Canon it put stabilization edge improvement in the lens and also now in the camera.

I agree that its not rocket science if you are already using a versatile camera. All cameras are rather similar. But I would sympathize with those whose only photo experience is their phone.

Bought Buschs book a year before buying into the new Z system. Nikons marketing materials didnt usefully answer half of my questions. Asking other users on a forum hardly helps much more.

So I urge you to check anything you hear here against your book, or ask the book first *before* asking the forum. That way your question is more specific.

I purchased a mirrorless a couple years ago, and I still shoot a DSLR as well. I saw no transition at all. To me, the mirrorless is just another camera that shoots a bit differently, nothing more.
