Taken Yesterday.

Nikon z5 -- Sigma 100-400 contemporary. 400mm (cropped), 1/800 sec, F/6.3, ISO 400

My first sports shot with this set up.

Caught the action, though wish I had a better background.

The backgrounds at polo matches are always sort of bad. One has to learn to accept that. The same is true of most rodeo and horse show shots.

Drop your aperture to about 3.5 and see if you like the change

Delightful decisive moment Ken...

And like Toby said... use DOF for dropping out BG distractions...
Yes there is a compelling reason why commercial shooters pony up for a 400mm f/2.8 optic.

Thank you for sharing Ken.
All the best on your journey...

Thomas/Toby

Thanks for the advice -- Unfortunately, the Sigma 400mm doesn't go wider than f/6.3 at 400mm, sigh. However, right now, that's what the budget allows.

Thomas is, of course, 100% correct about it being a Journey -- Over the years, I've changed my equipment a number of times -- and hopefully, I'll have many more, to invest in better equipment over time.

Hi Ken: I like the shot and I must agree try next time shooting wide open. Then you will see a difference in the background by blurring it a bit.
Have a great 4th and be safe.

Thanks!!!

I agree with the comment. Hopefully there will come a day when my budget will allow me to get a fast 400mm lens!!

Have a great 4th too.
