Had to try it. It is HOT in Texas today. Temperature about 105 but on my patio in the sun the thermometer reading is 123.
Sooo...
I wanted to see if I could fry an egg on the side tray on my outdoor grill. Didn't work. I really thought it would if I gave it enough time but I never saw the white start to turn. BTW just by chance it was a double yoke egg.

Interesting, I always thought you could fry an egg that way. I wonder if the reflective surface of the SS had anything to do with it. I'm going to try it tomorrow with a black Teflon frying pan, its going to be 105 tomorrow.

When I lived in texas we cracked the egg on asphalt. The yoke went white.

Asphalt being black might have made it a lot hotter. πŸ€”

So this is what happens when you retire and have time on your hand. Hmmm. But thanks anyway for answering this age old question. πŸ‘

I believe I read that it takes a temperature of 135ΒΊ to fry an egg and that was on asphalt.

It's frying right now. Supposed to hit only 105 today so we will see.
