All, I’ll repeat a comment I’ve made in this section before: if you’re not interested in buying an item, kindly stay out of the transaction and refrain from comments concerning the pricing - it’s really none of your business and is definitely unappreciated by the seller. This is a classified ad section, not a section for general comments about how pricing should be determined, how much the item should sell for, where you can buy it cheaper, how the seller should conduct THEIR business, or how they should price THEIR property. I’m pretty sure that the vast majority of UHH members are adults, capable of checking prices and making monetary decisions on their own without the assistance of self appointed guardians of THEIR spending. This forum is for sellers and BUYERS, not kibitzers. If the item is priced incorrectly, the market will communicate that to the seller very clearly, and if you feel that you have information that the seller really needs to know, just PM them.

WOW!! TriX, you really got onto these people. After thinking about it you are SO right. If a person is not smart enough to check things out on their own they deserve what they get. SO easy to check on pricing, warranties, resale prices, etc. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Well said. Sometimes the world and the internet are full of knuckleheads. This isn’t a flea market or garage sale.

P.S. To the OP, go to Fred Miranda forum. You will find a higher level of courtesy and respect when trying to sell your gear.

Agree on this advice. Grew very weary of all the comments and noisiness of a few here on the Hog. And please, do not defend your comments thinking others can't think, decide or research for themselves. It is sanctimonious at best and rude.

But sales tax doesn't apply to used items. (Technically it does but it's difficult to enforce).

If you buy a car, drive it off the lot then around the block and back to the dealer and trade it in for another car, that's gonna cost you 30% of the value of the new car.

Same with other things.

I don’t know if any has noticed but Z9s are listed on EBay for $6000 to $7000. Someone should carefully look into this.

I had hoped all those who apparently continue to feel the compulsion to comment might have read my post above and been able to see themselves in the seller’s position and realize how unwelcome and wrong-headed these comments about the price of the advertised merchandise are. I had hoped you might see how YOU would feel in the same situation, but apparently not. Try to imagine this: you’re selling your house. It’s been on the market for awhile and it has been shown dozens of times. You finally have an interested potential buyer, and in the middle of the transaction, a stranger, with no interest in buying your house, drops in the middle of your conversation and announces that there is a much better deal down the street. How would you feel?

Now to the specifics, and then I’m done with this rudeness, and I hope the seller, as suggested, takes down his offer (in disgust) and takes it to another’s forum such as Fred Miranda.

1) to the comment about the taxes, you missed the point. The seller PAID list price for the camera PLUS the sales tax (which a buyer from him would not have to pay), so he has probably $5900 invested in the camera.

2) if you buy it, you save ~$300 over the new price IF you could buy one off the shelf, which you can’t. They are back ordered, so you may get one in 4-6 months. You do lose the new warranty, so it’s up to you to assess if getting an essentially new body that much sooner is worth the loss of the warranty and what the chances of a failure in the warranty period are.

3) as to the comment about new cars losing 30% in value when they are driven off the lot. First, that % isn’t true and never has been - just one of those “conventional wisdom” stories. Yes, it does become a used car after it’s purchased, but a 40K car doesn’t lose 12K the same day. In fact, in today’s market, the owner may be able to sell it for MSRP because of the limited supply. For hard to get cars, they are selling for MORE than new MSRP. Want to convince yourself of this? Just watch a few Mecum auto auctions. And it certainly doesn’t apply to cameras.

4. If you never pay more than 50% of the new price for used cameras/lenses, the you aren’t buying many recent cameras and lenses.

5. On eBay, hard to find items are routinely selling for above list. Surprise, surprise. - it’s called speculation or profiteering on a rare item. You may not like it, but (a) that is not what the seller is doing - he’s trying to recoup $5600 (which for all I know may be negotiable) on a $5900 investment (camera+tax) and (b) the owner is free to ask anything they like - you are not required to buy it, consider it or comment on it.

6. As to excoriating the seller for not guessing beforehand whether he’d like the camera, instead ask yourself if you’ve EVER bought something in your life and decided you didn’t like it? EVER?

7. If you want to have a discussion as to the correct price of a just opened Z9, the proper and courteous action would have been to start a new thread on the subject and keep your opinions out of the classifieds.

8. And finally, since not ONE of the comments is from an actual buyer, it’s none of your business what the seller asks - just move on.

End of rant and end of watching this intentionally trashed thread by a bunch of “lookee loos”

"Listed" means nothing if they don't find some idiot to pay the price.
Plus Ebay now charges a 13% sales commission PLUS another 3% if Paypal is used for payment.
$6000 sale might only get you $5040 net.

I have noticed some items go pretty fast when there is interest and when there is a lot of chatter then there maybe there is not much interest.

Serious buyers can always send a private message and buy the product immediately if they want.
