External Mike for Nikon DSLR

I am interested in getting a hot shoe mounted mike for my Nikon DSLRs, any thoughts? Do not want one crazy priced yet one that has a dead cat to help with WIND NOISE! OH MY, got my fill of that out on the Oregon coast last September when I encountered near gale force winds. Great wave action yet lousy audio.

Thanks. PM me if you wish.

Rode VideoMic GO II for around $100 or the Sennheiser Professional MKE 400 for around $200. The Rode VideoMicro for about $60 is smaller, a little more convenient and almost as good.

If you are trying to record people speaking in the wind, you have to get a mic on them. Both Rode and DJI make near perfect wireless mic systems for that.

Not interested in people talking; want to record surf and wave action mostly.

Get the Rode VideoMicro. It is high quality, inexpensive, needs no batteries and comes with a big fuzzy "dead cat" ball. I have one and like it a lot. For human voice it is very good but not "exceptional". The more expensive Rode mics are more "directional" and have some other features that might be useful.
