Coming home from dinner we drove past this owl sitting at a rail road crossing in the middle of the road cars passing by within inches of the bird.

We pulled over an my son took off his shirt threw it over the owl. He never tried to claw or bite or struggle against us. we took him to our house just up the road from where we found him.

We Checked him out finding nothing that was obviously hurting an let him just sit an chill for about 20 minutes. he sat perfectly still other than tracking our moving around him with a slow turn of his head

When he flew across the room kind of slow an lazy we picked him up took him outside into the main barn sat him down an he promptly flew out The barn door an away into the night.

Its eye looks different from each other. Maybe stunned or auto lights effected its vision & needed time to recoup. Something was up for it not to fly away when approached Once in a lifetime thing for anyone I know.

I don’t know the type of owl he is. If you look close you can see a spot of blood an a small break in his beak.

I can only hope he was ok. The fact he could see well enough to navigate his way out of tbe barn through a side door that was open gives hope his sight was ok, I can only wonder an hope.

Photos # 2 and 5 show his right eye is pointed in and down, with damage to his upper beak. This indicates upper face, nose and right eye and orbit damage, most likely from trauma.
In such cases, it is best to phone Animal Rescue so a vet can evaluate the animal for damage. Otherwise, keeping it at least for a few days, with food and water, is a good idea. Let us hope this owl does well back in the outdoors.
