Kindle - Charging Problem Developing

I have a Kindle that hasn't been turned off in months because the power button doesn't work. When I open and close the case, it turns on and off, so I can still use it. Now, it's developing a problem with the USB charging port. It's very difficult to get a good connection. Changing cables doesn't help. I doubt that little socket is a simple replacement, so I may have to say goodbye to this Kindle soon. I've opened it up to checkout the power button, so maybe I'll open it up again to see how that socket is connected. Since it's still working, I'd rather not make it worse.
I'd like to see cordless charging for everything.

You can also read Kindle books on your SmartPhone or PC. Not sure about Apple / Mac stuff.

Closing the case puts it to sleep but doesn't shut it off. I still have my original first edition Fire but my wife has had the same problem you describe with a couple of Kindles. She reads in bed with the charging cable plugged in and I think she puts strain on the USB connector.

Sorry - bad terminology.
If it didn't work that way, I would have dumped it months ago. Bad female USB ports seem to be a problem with many devices. Too much wear and tear, and they stop working.

Just a thought. I have has bad usb cables in the past. Better quality cables fit tight into the port and are reliable.

I tried several cables, with the same result. The socket down 't hold them securely. "Better" is hard to determine.

Make sure all the debris is cleaned out of the charging port.
Cleaned out, picked out might be a better term. Use something
small, metal and pointed to get to the bottom of the port. If the cable
seems kind loose when plugged in? there is probably something
restricting full insertion of the plug into the socket. It can be difficult
to properly clean this area.

I thought all that junk in there would make for a tighter connection.

Kindles do occasionally have trouble with the USB charging port.
I have a generation one kindle and I have to position it just right and not let it move as it is charging.
It's a total pita

What version Kindle? If it is within the last couple of years you should be able to get a wireless charger.

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. I love my kindle read books every day. I probably average a new book every two days. Mostly I read Westerns.

My wife experienced the charging problem last evening. The connection doesn't work and it is the unit not the cable plug. I am am going to just replace it, it gave her 8 years of good service.

It's frustrating that a Kindle that works perfectly cannot turn off, and cannot charge reliably. I have others, but it's still annoying.
