I have no idea why - or how - this old barn is still standing. It looks like the cross on the far hill may be holding it up? I thought the juxtaposition of the crumbling barn and the white cross made for an interesting visual contrast, and the PP treatment gives it a somewhat surreal air - at least, that was the intention!

It should stay up a bit while more. Although most of the walls and cosmetics are gone, the main structural components- pillars, beams, purlins & lintels seems to be still sound.

Nice photo.

Excellent shot. I like the peek a boo cross

I think if you add a board here and there and then a coat of paint, it will be as good as new

You have a great eye. It is not common to see such stuff in Mid City. The sky is an attractive and soothing shade of blue and is a great background for the cross and the structure. Unfortunately, in south Louisiana, there is ALWAYS a structure in most backgrounds where any land above sea level is at a premium.

I bought an old farm. On the farm there was an old shed. Probably an equipment shed because it wasn't set up for animals and the farm had been an orchard in its past life.

One breezy day I went into the shed and noticed that the back wall was moving. I found that the sill plate was in pretty bad shape and one of the posts holding up the back of the shed had rotted out. There was a 2" gap between the sill plate and the post. The roof was holding up the post.

I got the opportunity to learn some post and beam carpentry (more or less). Post and beam construction can be pretty strong.

Nice shot, Tommy. Maybe it’s still up because there’s not much for the wind to catch.

Interesting, and photogenic! Love old barns, must be something about their character. My 'favorite' old barn collapsed years ago, under a 2 ft. snow load, in NW Arkansas.
