Unwelcome Visitor

While black bears are now commonplace here in CT, none have yet ventured onto our deck, where we welcome a wide range of birds. The deck railing is 24-feet above the ground, but this didn't deter this guy -- a mature male with, as yet, no ear tags. Needless to say, the wild-bird-fast-food operation has closed indefinitely.

Took the liberty of downloading the file, opening it in Affinity Photo, exporting it with no additional post processing, and uploading it to the forum so readers of the post could see the picture. Cute little guy!

Nice photo. Bears will climb. And crush bird feeders.

I wonder what the frequency range of a bear’s hearing is and if a particularly annoying frequency would keep them away. Kind of like those ultrasonic rodent repellants except tailored to a bear’s hearing.

My sister and her husband retired on the north shore of Lake Superior. They enjoyed feeding the birds, but keeping the birdfeeders away from the bears was a constant struggle. (think squirrels - only much, much bigger)
